The Music Is In Your Bones

Blog about music. For musicians and music lovers -
As we all know it’s not easy to admit you were wrong but on this occasion, no matter how difficult it is, I must admit I was wrong about Katy B. When my attention was first drawn Katy B with her debut release I wasn’t impressed. The music seemed extremely over produced and in many cases the boring; her single ‘broken record’ literally was like that. Whether that was the intention or not I’m unsure but personally not a successful technique in making good quality music.

With her second album however I was stunned to silence. I listened to the new Katy B material with an already negative viewpoint but after hearing the 30 second preview of ‘5 AM’ on iTunes I had to hear more. Every single has been strong and the vocals of Katy B have definitely improved on album number 2. The album ‘Little Red’ is full of upbeat pop songs with great beats, not something I thought I would say about Katy B so I’ll do the right thing hear and just say it; I was wrong.

Cannot put into words how excited I am to see this woman later this year. Amazing singer, amazing performer, amazing woman.

The Rise of ‘Foxes’

I first came across Foxes through an ad on my Facebook page and have never looked back on my decision to click. Her song ‘Echo’ gave me the reassurance she had what it takes to enter the mainstream of pop while sticking to her original ethereal sound.

The breakthrough of Foxes as an artist arrived with her vocals on the Grammy award winning Zedd track ‘Clarity’ but it was fantastic to continue to see her make a name for herself in her own right with follow up singles; ‘Let Go for Tonight’, ‘Glorious’ and ‘Holding on to Heaven’. Her debut album is due to be released this summer and if her previous work is anything to go buy it is sure to be a hit!

CHVRCHES

This is a band that I have grown to love this past year.  Having heard about them through various friends I bought their debut album ‘The Bones of What You Believe’ in a search to find something new and fresh and I was not disappointed. Their pop-synth sound is electrifying to listen to and the vocals of Lauren Mayberry create an interesting mix with the edge of her Scottish accent coming through. On some occasions listening to the album it did feel slightly ‘over synthesised’ it is however in general a fantastic albums and definitely a band I hope to see live during 2014!

Arrived to this a bit late but falling in love!

Not a huge Arctic Monkeys fan but think this is their best release to date,

Haim! What are our thoughts on this band? I love them. Seen them live 3 times already and going to see them again in December. They’ve got a unique and fresh sound and can’t wait for their long awaited debut album ‘Days Are Gone’ to come out this fall.

After such strong winners from the Brits Critic Choice award I was a bit disappointed with next years winner - Tom Odell. Mainly because I had never heard of him but here’s hoping he makes something of it!

Rabbit Heart by Florence + The Machine - This is a recording from an Abbey Road session a couple of years back, has so much more passion in it that what seems to be in the album version. My favourite Florence song to be performed live!

Lana Del Rey in the video for ‘National Anthem’, my favourite song off of the album Born To Die.
